What to see in Thun
Thun (in French Thoune) is a city and Swiss commune of the canton of Bern, capital of the Administrative District of Thun. Thun is the third most populous city in the canton of Bern, and is the main urban center of the Oberland Bernés. Until December 31, 2009, it was the capital of the district of Thun.
The city is located on the shores of Lake Thun. The historic center is not directly on the edge of the lake, but on an islet of the AAR, which separates the city in two arms.
Thanks to the lake and the proximity to the Bernese Alps, Thun attracts tourists since the early nineteenth century. In 1879, with the introduction of the railroad the region took a new air. During the second part of the twentieth century the city extended west, where modern neighborhoods are located and where industrial activity is also implanted.
